The Land Flowing With Milk and Honey

It also has giants.

There’s a fairly popular story about the 12 spies of Israel. You can read it here.

They were given an assignment, to spy on the promised Land that God was giving the Israelites as their inheritance.

10 of those spies came back with a negative report (in reality, they spoke the truth.) They had judged the situation solely based on what they had seen with their eyes and their current physical abilities. The land was beautiful, but there was a major problem: It had giants. The Israelites had no experience with battle after being slaves for over 400 years, they were afraid and thought it would be a bad idea to try and conquer the land.

2 of those spies however gave a different report on the land, focusing on the positive sides, it was a land flowing with milk and honey. They didn’t however, forget to mention the giants. They weren’t oblivious, but they believed that God was going to help them overcome it.

I found it quite interesting that the Promised Land flowing with milk and honey also had giants; a form of opposition or struggle or strife. A huge problem, literally.

I’m guessing the Israelites expected to come and occupy a land that was empty or at best have midgets that they could fight off easily.

Why should there be problems in the land God said He would give me?

This story made me wonder

If we’re like the Israelites in some way.

Maybe God has promised you a very nice job with an amazing pay and good pension, but the work load is a lot, your boss is mean to you and you’re sad every time you have to go to work.

You’re probably wondering is this really the job God promised? Or you’re complaining, it wasn’t this hard at my last job, I should have just stayed there, this stress isn’t worth all the good things this job comes with.

Or God promised you a spouse or kids, and things aren’t going as well as you’d have thought. And now you’re thinking, I should have just enjoyed my single years, this stress is too much, where is my personal space?

It’s giving Israelite. Lol

“And the Lord said to Moses, “How long will these people treat me with contempt? Will they never believe me, even after all the miraculous signs I have done among them?”

‭‭Numbers‬ ‭14‬:‭11‬ ‭NLT‬‬

God never promised that there wouldn’t be problems, He never said the giants wouldn’t be there.

But He always assures us by saying to us over and over again:

‘I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt. I am the Lord your God is there anything too hard for me to do?’

Sometimes we just need to rest in the knowledge of the constant presence of God in our lives.

Yes there might be giants in the land God promised, but the same God who parted the Red Sea would help you defeat these giants.

So anytime you face any form of giant, just say to yourself: But the Lord is with me, and then rest.

“Two of the men who had explored the land, Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh, tore their clothing. They said to all the people of Israel, “The land we traveled through and explored is a wonderful land! And if the Lord is pleased with us, he will bring us safely into that land and give it to us. It is a rich land flowing with milk and honey. Do not rebel against the Lord, and don’t be afraid of the people of the land. They are only helpless prey to us! They have no protection, but the Lord is with us! Don’t be afraid of them!”” Numbers‬ ‭14‬:‭6‬-‭9‬ ‭NLT‬‬
