Repetition Is Important.
Because some of us have coconut head.
I started going to a new church recently. It’s been a whole lot of fun. I’ve met new people, I also reconnected with some old friends from Uni. It’s been extremely electric being in an environment full of young people who are genuinely interested in knowing more about God and being better people.
I noticed something about this church though; there’s a lot of emphasis on ‘the basics’ of christianity.
Read your bible, pray everyday if you want to grow.
It’s been over two thousand years since Jesus died and it’s been many years since the bible was written. But it’s still what we’re reading till today.
It’s elementary my dear Watson.
And it’s the same things we need to hear everyday. We need to re-emphasize what we already know.
It’s so shocking how when I’m going through difficult situations, for example, I’m quick to panic and freak out and I forget how God says we should be anxious for nothing. Lol.
That’s why I’m grateful for an opportunity to hear and learn and re-learn what I already know. Let me try and help you too:
God loves you, so much that He came down Himself to take the punishment for the sins of our forefathers that we were meant to bear. He wants a relationship with you, so choose Him.
How best can we have a relationship with a God we can’t see unless we read what was written of Him and spend time in prayer and fellowship with Him?
The Gospel sometimes seems so simple and so basic. And yes I know there are some intricacies, some socio-cultural issues and so on, but those are not the most important parts of the bible.
All throughout scripture we see stories of flawed humans try and fail to sustain a relationship with God using their own strength and we see God graciously show favor and mercy on them. We see Him extend His arms to them when they fail, forgive them and give them strength to try again. We see Him show love and bless them even when they weren’t perfect. This is the God of the Bible.
We also see a righteous God who wants us to truly be like Him, who wants us to live a life that pleases Him and not defy ourselves with sin and evil. A God who wants us to love our neighbour like He loves us. A God who loves justice and punishes wrong doing.
God is the same yesterday, today and forever.
And it is important that we repeat the basics in our head, meditating on the word of God day and night, till the day we die. No days off, no slacking, keep on listening to the word over and over again, till it doesn’t just become part of you, but it becomes you.
I once watched some men break a coconut, it took multiple hits before they were eventually able to get to the innermost parts of the coconut. The same way we will continue to listen to and learn and meditate on the word of God till it eventually is able to pierce into our souls and transform us from the inside out.
“Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.”
