Genesis Bible study: Chapter 7–8
The great flood
So the flood happens, just as God said it would
The chapters are silent on how long it took exactly between when God gave the instructions till the flood actually happened.
The chapters don’t actually mention wether Noah spent time warning people of the impending doom and wether he was mocked by them or not (not sure where people got that idea from.)
It rained for 40 days and 40 nights and then 5 months later, the ark rested on the top of a mountain.
God then sent a wind to blow and cause the flood to begin to dry up.
It took over a year before the earth was completely dry.
Then God told Noah and his family to come out of the boat and to release the animals as well.
Then Noah built an alter and offered a sacrifice to God using some of the ‘clean’ animals.
This sacrifice pleased God, then God said
“I will never again curse the ground for man’s sake, although the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; nor will I again destroy every living thing as I have done. While the earth remains, Seedtime and harvest, Cold and heat, Winter and summer, And day and night Shall not cease.”
Genesis 8:21–22 NKJV
I’m not even sure how Noah and his family with all the animals survived for that long on the ark. They were literally on lockdown for over a year.
How did they know how much food to carry along? How did they care for the animals?
They most likely would’ve gotten frustrated.
They might’ve thought that God had forgotten all about them.
What I learned from these chapters
1- God’s word would come to pass, no matter how long it takes
2- You might be in a difficult situation for a while, but be patient, God hasn’t forgotten about you
